During these uncertain times, we are remaining hopeful and cautious as September approaches. Our top priority is ensuring all members of our community are healthy and comfortable. We are hopeful to begin our 2020/2021 team as usual, but are preparing for alternatives. We will be following the regulations set forward by Mount Royal University and the government. Team Requirements: The Cubs Performance Team and Competitive team season begins in September and runs until early April. Dancers must be able to attend all practices and performances for the entire season. Dancers must attend every practice for the duration of the season (in accordance with the Mount Royal academic calendar). Dancers must also be able to attend all scheduled performances. Performance schedule TBA.
3 years of previous dance experience is recommended, but not required. We welcome all levels of dance and athletic experience to attend auditions! We are also seeking tumblers, gymnasts, and acrobatics backgrounds! We are looking for female, male and all other identities to join our team!
Audition Attire Requirements [Mandatory]: Please wear: dance or athletic sports bra / crop top, fitted shorts & running shoes or bare feet. Please wear your hair and makeup as you envision it on game day! Attire requirements are mandatory. Hair must be worn down.
Audition Process: Auditions will be held over 2 hours, consisting of 2 parts - Part A and Part B. Auditions will begin with a group warm-up and stretch lead by the Cubs Technical Training and Condition Coach. Following this, Part A of auditions will begin.
Part A is "Across the Floor" where dancers will be asked to perform skills in small groups/ individually; typically including kicks, turns, and jumps.
Part B is "Choreography" where dancers will be asked to learn and perform a short routine similar in style to a typical Cubs dance. This will be lead by the Cubs Choreographer. Afterwards, dancers will be asked to perform any additional skills or tricks which they did not have the opportunity to showcase throughout the audition.
Dancers will be evaluated on skill, ability, performance and attitude. Dancers are not required to prepare any routines in preparation for this audition.

Following primary auditions, a first cut will be made. Dancers that receive an email after the first set of auditions are requested at call backs.
Dancers will perform the same routine from auditions and will participate in a short interview with the head coaches & executive team.
Dancers will be notified if they are requested at call backs or if they are not.

Intensive Week

Following call backs, a second cut will be made. Dancers will then be requested at Intensive Week. Intensive week is a 4 day training period in which dancers will learn choreography for this season. Intensive week is 2.5 hours of training Monday-Thursday evenings. During each practice a new routine will be taught. Each practice is mandatory. Following intensive week the official team will be selected. Final results will be sent out on the Friday following intensive week.
