Number of Season:
Get to Know Katie:
This is my 5th season dancing with the Cubs Dance Team. Three words I would use to describe myself are intuitive, compassionate, and diligent.
I wanted to join the cubs initially because i wanted to continue dancing after aging out of my studio to stay in shape and meet girls with similar interests. I've continued to be on the team because it's a great outlet to have every week, its a safe space to come and dance; the team challenges me just enough that it has been a huge source of personal growth for me over the years and helped me meet amazing ladies, choreographers etc. that i know i will have relationships to value for many years. I am majoring in International Business, hopefully graduating this winter. I currently work two jobs consistently, one in business development at an insurance adjusting firm, and the other at Cowboys - doing bottle service in the club with three other lovely ladies. I also do some other promotional work and modeling/dancing jobs through another company.
I trained at Prestige Dance Academy since I was 4 years old. I explored all styles from ballet, to hip hop, to contemporary throughout my time there and competed with their intensive program for the majority of my dance life there. We traveled a lot and had amazing opportunities, the studio continues to grow and do amazing things and im really proud to say that I was with them from the beginning when they first opened and will always be a supporter. I took ballet and Jazz exams during my time there, and also did some acro. As it wasn't a large area of training until more recent years, and it's hard to get over the fear of flipping and being upside down if you're above the age of 10 I only did a few years of training in this area but I have always wanted to work and improve upon it.
I competed mostly in contemporary and lyrical areas and my solo's were always in those areas, I used to absolutely hate ballet but as I got older I really developed an appreciation for it and the need for the technique and discipline it develops in dancers for growth in all other areas of dance.
My favorite part of game days is when we are all warming up before the game and trying to get each other as pumped up as we can so we can transfer that energy to the crowd. Also getting glammed up is always fun, red lipstick is a staple and that finishing step of getting ready and personally adds so much confidence and a pop to the overall Cubs look. I can't wait to get back out there and show MRU what we're bringing to the table this year.
My favorite quote recently is from Frank Ocean and simply said "work hard in silence, let your success be your noise".
